ABSTRACT

One thing, among so many others, that globalisation brings to China is the wide and deep spread of English language from preschool to doctoral education, from general to specific use and from common to academic purposes. Against this general context, the study focused on a specific context in which English language teachers, who speak Chinese as their first language, are trained. In exploring this particular context, the study aimed to answer how Chinese-speaking writers use Chinese (L1) and English (L2) in doing academic writing in English.
