ABSTRACT
People learn much about the world through photographs. Photographs show people what war is like, what social ills look like, and what products to buy. Photographs tell people whom to look up to and whom to despise; they identify leaders, heroes, and enemies. Th ey bring people together in celebration and mourning. Indeed, no aspect of life seems uninfl uenced by photographs.
