ABSTRACT

In 1967, seven-year-old Alan began fueling his fi lm interest with Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. He scoured the TV guide for chances to watch the old monster movies he read about. As he enjoyed the likes of Godzilla, King Kong, and Th e Wolf Man, he also learned about the genre’s history and fi lmmakers. Watching and reading about these fi lms inspired him to make his own short 8mm fi lms (the fi rst a 5-minute eff ort titled Cry of the Werewolf ) and to write a monster movie magazine with his cousin.
