ABSTRACT

The chapter presents the fictional transcript that shows how a therapist might use the techniques. The imaginary client is a 45-year-old female, recently divorced, with two children. Her presenting problem is that she and the kids are having difficulty adjusting to their new lives. The therapist has been in private practice for 15 years. Several things should be noted regarding this transcript. This was done to demonstrate how to move from rapport building and hearing the client's story 'The Reflecting Pool' to encouraging the client to try to do something different 'Waves in Motion'. Further, this session transcript is quite lengthy, again due to adding in all of the skills. Also note that the therapist spent a lot of time asking questions 'The Questioning Tree'. As with any session, real or fictional, there are a multitude of different approaches a therapist might take.
