ABSTRACT
Half a million babies in the United States—approximately one in eight—are born prematurely each year. 1 Those that are born with respiratory distress or other physical problems are treated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) until they are stable and no longer need life support or constant medical care. Ollie is a NICU graduate who survived through seven months of in-hospital care.
