ABSTRACT

Helping children resolve trauma and develop a secure attachment with their parents requires balancing the work of trauma resolution with the layering of positive experiences of intimacy. Trauma resolution focuses on desensitizing and reprocessing distressing experiences to remove obstacles to children’s natural inclination to trust adults to take care of them, and parent-child activities can give children the opportunity to experience joy in relationships with others. Cultivating positive emotions in children who have suffered PTSD and complex trauma is crucial.
