ABSTRACT

This book opened with three vignettes. The first offered impressions of our trip to the visitor centre at the Nam Theun 2 hydropower project in Laos and meeting the project company’s public relations manager. The second described our visit to one of the resettlement villages to which those formerly residing along the Theun River had been relocated in light of that project’s development. Finally, we related an encounter with the three members of the Nam Theun 2 Panel of Experts charged with independent oversight of the project and public reporting on its environmental and social impacts.
