ABSTRACT

One of the most important elements of Math Workshop is guided math groups. Guided math groups are small, intentional lessons with students around a particular topic. These lessons take place for 8–15 minutes, and you must always be ever-conscious of your students’ attention span (which is their age plus a few minutes). A guided math lesson is short, to the point, and important. It is always in the students’ zone of proximal development and is usually done in a cycle of three or four rounds to teach an idea.
