Introduction Although used in relatively small quantities compared with the load-bearing construction materials, sealants, gaskets and adhesives play a significant role in the perceived success or failure of buildings. A combination of correct detailing and appropriate use of these materials is necessary to prevent the need for expensive remedial work. Many manufacturers are producing solvent-free sealants and adhesives as environmentally friendly alternatives to the traditional solvent-based systems.
