Down deep, however, I could not get fully excited about this race. Instead of asking myself the same question the reporter had asked, I found myself wondering just the opposite: How would a campaign for chief justice impact my work on the Gillispie case, as well as a half dozen other involvements that had the potential to change public policy? I would have to give up all of these efforts if I were fortunate enough to run and win.
