I. INTRODUCTION The general subject of this chapter is the relation between the quantitative aspects of stimuli, neural events, and experiential dimensions. However, we are immediately faced with the need to define the term "quantity" with respect to each of these three universes of discourse to fully understand the material we shall discuss.
