ABSTRACT
The establishment of Switzerland is dated at 1 August 1291 when the cantons of Uri, Schwytz, and Unterwald signed the Federal Charter. Through this commitment, these three first cantons promise an everlasting covenant against any aggressor. As the centuries passed, 23 cantons would join them to create what would become the Swiss Confederation.
