ABSTRACT

When Edwin Hubble (1929) announced that there is “a linear correlation between distances and velocities” of extragalactic nebulae, he dropped a bombshell on the intellectual community. He had discovered the Doppler red shift of the other galaxies in our universethe universe, our universe, was expanding, and very rapidly at that! The innumerable nebulae, which he had identified as galaxies earlier, were rocketing away from each other across the endless void of empty space. Our universe was much vaster and more dynamic than we had dared to imagine.
