ABSTRACT

The research group managed to survey 1,101 prisoners from 36 prisons. The data of 1,049 prisoners were included in the main analysis (Table 7.1); 52 participants were excluded because they either indicated a prison term that was too short or answered less than half of the questions. In the analysis of mental problems ( Chapter 7.4), the data of 1,055 participants were included, because these persons had completed the questions on PTSD, psychological well-being, suicidality and self-harm to a sufficient degree. Overall, the number of missing answers increases in the second half of the prisoners’ questionnaire. Missing answers are only mentioned in the analysis if their number seems to require an explanation. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS for Windows).
