ABSTRACT

On November 6, 2014, The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage, held a ceremony to unveil a new monument on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to commemorate the War of 1812 during the 200th anniversary of that conflict. It is the most recent of a number of memorials to the war constructed in Canada from 1824 to present day. Like many monument projects before it, this one has met with some criticism from those who think that the money could have been better spent elsewhere.
