The Gainsborough was originally popularized in England during the mid-18th century. It was named after the painter Thomas Gainsborough. The look was revived in the beginning of the 20th century during the Edwardian period. This hat is defined by its large asymmetrical brim, which was most commonly decorated with ostrich plumes and ribbon.
