ABSTRACT

At times, parents’ interpretations, explanations, and evaluations of themselves, others, events, or situations close down the possibilities for change. Parents act in ways that are consis tent with rigid views. Young people may simply have limited experiences that limit the way they see things. In these cases, in an effort to dissolve the problematic story, it can be helpful to offer a different point of view. It is essential that therapists do not state different points of views as facts or truths. In other words, we want to give parents the space to accept or reject all or part of thera pists’ interpretations.
