ABSTRACT

All mental health professionals carry theories regarding the most effective arrangements for meeting with clients. Unfortunately, therapists’ perceptions do not always match clients’ ideas about how change will come about. However, it is clear that positive therapeutic outcome is pro moted when clinicians understand and utilize their clients’ ideas about how to approach therapy sessions. This is particularly important in family therapy because each person will have differ ent ideas and all must feel included if they are to invest energy in creating solutions.
