ABSTRACT

You have read the stories that the elderly folks at Powhatan Nursing home produced with the assistance of the Marymount University graduate students. There are several features of these stories that are worth an additional comment. The stories arc nearly all positive ones. It is not that these vcry old individuals have not experienced difficulties. Indeed, some of them were telling their stories from wheelbeds or wheelchairs. Several had suffered from strokes and others were somewhat physically incapacitated, but they did not focus on these recent difficulties. The predominant theme was that they had had a good life and had enjoyed the passage of it. Perhaps there is a lesson in this for all of us.
