ABSTRACT

The goal of this chapter is to help the children explore private hopes and wishes in a safe inner place and to help the children identify feelings and thoughts when they go back and forth between parents in the zone of conflict. When the group is seated in a circle or around a table, the leader makes a brief statement of welcome. Then the group begins with check-in, which involves asking each child to say something about her or his day and choose a feeling word to describe how she or he is feeling at that time. The focus of relaxation exercises is on awareness and mastery of physical tension states. The leader distributes folded paper for the gift card message. The leader distributes extra paper as needed for the gift drawing and folded paper for the gift card message. During the Videotape role-plays, the leader focuses on eliciting the feelings of the child toward the parents.
