ABSTRACT

This chapter consolidates the idea of gradations of feelings. It then helps children articulate the experience of a good/bad split. It helps children to begin work with possible integrations of a good/bad-Spontaneous feeling to be experienced by these children as reflecting their 'bad self' because they are not mirroring their parents' feelings and needs. Conversely, when their own feelings are suppressed in order to support their parents, they experience a 'good self'. The children, Koko, and Bunny try to guess what the feeling word is and whether it is a BIG or small feeling. After the children have had a chance to work on it, each child is asked to show her or his drawing and explain about each feeling she or he colored. A leader should give a brief recap of today's discussion, perhaps asking the children whether they had ever heard the story before and what ideas or feelings they had about it.
