ABSTRACT

As we look ahead to the next fifty years of eldercare, we can expect some current problems to continue and new ones to arise. How we handle challenges presented by the complexity of eldercare needs will affect the nature and quality of old age as experienced by others, ourselves (the caregivers of today), and generations to come. The grief education training approach for caregivers of the elderly, as described in this book, has brought together theories, thoughts, and feelings about aging, grief and loss, and dying with dignity. It is the purpose of this chapter to reframe some previously identified issues by turning these into challenges and opportunities for the future.
