ABSTRACT

The temple of Qurna (Gourna) is one of the mortuary temples built on the west bank of the river and intended for the funerary and commemorative services of a Pharaoh, who lay buried in the Valley of the Tombs of the Kings. It was erected by Sethy I as a memorial to his royal father, Rameses I, and in honour of his divine father, the god Amon. Being unfinished at Sethy’s death it was completed by his son, Rameses II, who included Sethy s and his own names in the dedication.
