ABSTRACT
Like many liberals I am frightened that our gluttonous appetite for material wealth is ruining the health of the planet. I am angry at the way this issue has been neglected and I am ashamed by my own participation in this abuse. I also feel anguish about our failures to be just and our struggle to use power accountably. All of this emotion, yes, I must be a liberal. We liberals feel a lot and often don't know quite what to do with these feelings, with the intensities evoked by the current crises in our culture, or with ourselves.
