ABSTRACT

In the last 20 years there have appeared more and more reports on the use of what might be generally termed ‘theatre’ in healing, in helping personal development or overcoming specific problems. I mean here those theatrical techniques which, in contrast to psychodrama and playback theatre, are not based on personal experiences and stories of group members but rather on improvisation or ready-made scenarios. Drama therapy is a general label for all the various creative uses of drama, targeted at the accomplishment of these therapeutic goals (Blatner 1988; Fink 1985; Johnson, 1982).
