ABSTRACT

Kohlberg’s (1963, 1984) theory of moral judgment occupies a prominent place in present-day developmental psychology. Arising from the cognitive-developmental constructivist paradigm propounded by Piaget, it has had a significant impact on a number of areas: psychology, where it now appears in virtually every developmental psychology textbook; education, where it is discussed in the context of moral and citizenship education (Kohlberg, 1970); and philosophy (cf. Habermas, 1976, on discursive ethics).
