ABSTRACT

The original concept of Type A pattern was a personality typology—a set of characteristics relating to the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD). At first, the epidemiological evidence concerning the relationship between general Type A assessments and CHD appeared to conclusively support the typology (Friedman, Rosenman, Straus, Wurm, & Kositchek, 1968; Jenkins, 1975; Jenkins, Zyzanski, & Rosenman, 1976; Rosenman, Brand, Sholtz, & Friedman, 1976).
