ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1 the effects of chronic traumatization in early childhood were illustrated. This chapter describes how treatment of these effects can be planned. Treatment of the consequences of traumatization with the aim of processing traumatic experiences, reinitiating stagnated development and preventing further traumatization is called trauma-focused treatment. A traumatized child can also be treated for the results of traumatization without the aim of processing the trauma. In that case we do not speak of trauma-focused treatment. In the rest of the book, for the sake of convenience, I will use the term ‘treatment’ to indicate traumafocused treatment.
