ABSTRACT

Probably the world’s best-known three-word contraction, the term rock ’n’ roll has become such a part of our collective unconscious that it practically dees denition. We all know that rock ’n’ roll is a musical style, yet it has also come to represent an attitude, a feeling, even a way of life. e words themselves evoke images of anticipation, excitement, and unbridled joy. If we want to get the adrenaline owing for an important or exhilarating activity, we pump ourselves up with the phrase “Let’s rock ’n’ roll!” When we declare that someone or something “rocks,” we have paid a compliment of the highest order. Rock ’n’ roll is not a phrase content to be merely uttered; it demands to be shouted!
