ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we’re going to be applying last chapter’s principle to doing rough animation for an addition to our bouncing ball. We’re adding a tail. The most common way you will encounter overlapping in your day-to-day animation will be in hair, clothing, and extremities (arms, legs, what have you …). The same items to have overlapping action applied to them in one scene will be the ones to have a follow through applied to them when the whole comes to a rest. This sequence of events will be exemplifi ed in our tail for the bouncing ball exercise; it will be plotted through rough sketches fi rst and then cleaned up. Think of this chapter’s principle as being the one that’s mainly applied to the supporting features of a body’s movement. So while we have a good handle on bouncing a ball (the main body), we will now apply the same principles plus this one for the tail (supporting feature).
