ABSTRACT

In chapter 8 several small numerical examples were given of alternative approaches to the solution of the combined activity-location and trip-assignment problem. In chapter 9 one of these approaches was used to produce a series of equilibrium solutions to a complete combined problem, based on the full-scale Washington data set. In the description of these efforts a number of questions arose, the discussion of which was postponed to this chapter. These questions cluster around the issue of the meaning, for these models, of an equilibrium solution.
