ABSTRACT

Creating Urban Agricultural Systems: An Integrated Approach to Design is a sourcebook and design resource for an interdisciplinary audience, including architects, landscape architects, urban planners, design students, urban farmers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and engaged citizens. It documents emerging strategies, current practices, and working case studies to show the environmental, systemic, technical, and operational considerations involved in urban agriculture. The research presented synthesizes information on inputs and outputs, resource efficiencies, environmental benefits, and operational achievements. It is based on numerous site visits, examinations of outstanding case studies, and interviews with the farmers, founders, consultants, architects, and landscape architects behind innovative farm operations.
