ABSTRACT

Masters (1963), in his book on Patterns of Incest, pointed out that “there is a great diversity of opinion, among students of the subject, about incest: about why it occurs and why it is prohibited; about the effects of incest behavior and the effects of the incest prohibition; and about whether the law should concern itself specifically with incest at all” (p. 3). In the same book there are many illustrations of incest occurring as a regular part of the lives of various people. Incest is a subject of religion, literature, and psychology. These same questions persist today.
