ABSTRACT

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive condition that is manifested by loss in a variety of cognitive domains such as memory, object naming, and visuospatial ability that interferes with an individual's social and occupational functioning. As the number of people aged 65 and older grows in the United States, there is increasing interest in the cognitive problems associated with aging and age-related disturbances such as Alzl).eimer's disease. There is general agreement in the field of geropsychiatry that a component of treatment of age-associated cognitive loss will require pharmacological treatment (Bartus, 1986).
