ABSTRACT

In recent decades both the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages (MFL) in secondary schools in the UK have witnessed a number of important developments. second language acquisition (SLA) and foreign language learning (FLL) research have offered new insights into the processes governing FLL and have suggested various implications for approaches to teaching (see Chapter 14). Teaching methods have come and gone out of fashion and there have been considerable innovations in the field of educational technologies. In addition, many changes have occurred in the wider educational context, including legislative requirements and entitlements.
