ABSTRACT

This outline integrates the psychoanalytic, ego psychological, and object relations orientation of Dr. Judith Kestenberg with modern theories of recovery from abuse, addictions, and outmoded childhood survival patterns. In addition, this profile is suitable for use with adults without organic impairment. Thus the following chapter represents a clinicallyoriented outline for interpreting the nine formulated diagrams in the Kestenberg Movement Profile. Prospective KMP analysts are referred to the Training Manual for the Kestenberg Movement Profile (Berlowe, Kestenberg et al., 1995) for the specifics on how to translate the notation of observed movement into the graphed diagrams. The focus of this outline is on possible maladaptive or pathological findings based upon a European /Euro-American orientation to normal development.
