ABSTRACT
At the time this document was sent out to the gay and lesbian press, Basile was the executive director of the Human Rights Campaign Fund, a national organization working for gay and lesbian rights. His comments illustrate the difficulties of mobilizing community support for continuing civil rights work in the early years of the AIDS pandemic.
