ABSTRACT

This address was given to the International Committee for Sexual Equality meeting at the University of Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Cory was the author of the groundbreaking book The Homosexual in America, which had been published in 1951. The group in Los Angeles mentioned in his coverage of activism on behalf of homosexuals is the Mattachine Society. Donald Webster Cory was the pseudonym used by the gay activist writer Edward Sagarin (1913–1986), who would later reject this advocacy and publish antigay articles in sociology under his own name.
