ABSTRACT
The pontiff being addressed in this letter is John Paul II. The remarks referred to were made in Chicago on October 7, 1979, to a gathering of 300 Catholic bishops, where the pope endorsed a letter from them which said homosexual activity (as opposed to orientation) was morally wrong, and said that homosexuals should be dealt with “with clarity and great pastoral charity.”
