ABSTRACT

This inves t iga t ion offers a n e v a l u a t i o n of a theoret ica l m o d e l l i n k i n g t r a u - m a t i c c h i l d h o o d experiences w i t h H I V risk behaviors . I n a d d i t i o n , it p r o - vides a categorizat ion of c h i l d h o o d sexual abuse exper ience , a n analysis of h o w m o d e l variables differ d e p e n d i n g o n l e v e l of c h i l d h o o d s e x u a l abuse, a n d a n analysis of h o w m o d e l variables d iscr iminate a m o n g psychosoc ia l f u n c t i o n i n g clusters. Together, these analyses offer n e w i n f o r - m a t i o n o n h o w c h i l d h o o d sexual abuse a n d f a m i l y - o f - o r i g i n e n v i r o n m e n t predict , t h r o u g h a set of mediators , H I V r isk behaviors , h o w dif ferent levels of sexua l abuse are associated w i t h m o d e l variables, a n d h o w the variables i n the m o d e l d iscr iminate a m o n g f o u r clusters v a r y i n g i n psychosoc ia l f u n c t i o n i n g .
