ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the last strategy of the Stress Reduction Technique: Stress-Neutral Thoughts. This strategy is based on the method of cognitive restructuring which is a basic component utilized in the cognitive-behavioral approach to therapy. A brief history of cognitive restructuring will be provided to set the context, followed by a description of the role of worried thoughts in the stress process experienced by caregivers. Next, the Thought Tracking Record (TTR) will be introduced. The course of reducing worried thoughts and increasing Stress-Neutral Thoughts will be discussed, and the chapter will end with several case examples.
