ABSTRACT
In the beginning I went through months of self-searching. . . . I remember my sister had cancer and she said to my mother, "you know she [me] has got to realize that it [the injury] is not a life-threatening disease. . . . That really annoyed me because I felt she was undermining my injury just because hers was theoretically more severe. . . . I thought that is such a typical thing for a non-athlete to say because for lots of athletes their limbs are their life because that is what gives them their financial support and intrinsic motivation.
