ABSTRACT

As I begin to speculate now, I shall try to draw the line between analysis or therapy as a system of basic ideas and the practice of therapy that varies according to the clinician. Therefore, when I flnd fault with therapy, that does not mean that I am trying to flnd fault with its practitioners. Rather, I would attest to the sincerity of our work despite what I believe to be faulty, and even pernicious, ideas within that work. My criticism is of thought, not of people. Therefore, what I say should not be taken personally by therapists, but it should be taken to heart.
