ABSTRACT
The purpose of the medical evaluation of the child who has been sexually abused is threefold: 1) to evaluate medical problems related to the abuse, e.g., venereal disease, physical trauma, and pregnancy; 2) to gather medico-legal evidence of sexual abuse; and 3) to provide a protective and supportive environment enabling the child to deal with the issues surrounding victimization.
