ABSTRACT

Retrospective surveys of college students and adults indicate that from 2.5%-5% of these men had been sexually abused during childhood. Finkelhor (1979) reported that 4.1% of a male college student sample experienced sexual contact with adults before the age of 13. Fritz, Stoll, and Wagner (1981) found that 4.8% of a population of college students described at least one sexual encounter with an adult before puberty. A random sample of Texas residents studied by Kercher and McShane (1983) indicated that 3% of the males had been sexually abused during childhood. Bell and Weinberg (1981) discovered that 2.5% of a random sample of heterosexual men in San Francisco had been sexually victimized before puberty, while 4.9% of a cohort of homosexual men reported sexual molestation.
