ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we assume that the reader is familiar with the concept of posttraumatic growth (PTG) and we will focus on the application of this concept in clinical work. In earlier discussions of these applications (e.g., Calhoun & Tedeschi, 1999), we have made it clear that we are not proposing a new form of treatment, but rather looking for ways to integrate the perspective of PTG into common approaches to therapy for survivors of trauma. We have shown, for example, how therapy for bereaved parents can be enhanced by the inclusion of this growth perspective (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 2004b).
