ABSTRACT

Outplacement counseling was initially developed in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. It has since spread rather impressively to other parts of the world. Currently, Canada has a very well-developed outplacement industry. Professional outplacement services are provided in at least 14 European countries and 6 Latin American countries. There is also an outplacement industry in Australia as well as in certain Asian countries. This chapter provides information about the outplacement activities in these international areas. It identifies some key issues and compares and contrasts the international practice of outplacement with its U.S. counterpart.
