ABSTRACT
We have reported the details of the accomplishments of a project to develop an integrated model of a fairly complete perceptual-motor system. The progress made has stimulated several kinds of results. Some of them are purely technical and factual and were reported in detail. However, some general conclusions can be made. First, we believe we have demonstrated that it is possible to develop a system that is adept and robust at carrying out the detection, discrimination, recognition, planning, and navigation goals of our original plan. Second, we also created some novel algorithms and procedures that accomplish these tasks in new and interesting ways. Second, there are conceptual, if not philosophical, conclusions emerging from this project that go far beyond the details of the specific algorithms and procedures. This chapter concentrates on presenting those broader conclusions and inferences.
