ABSTRACT

This chapter speaks only about the spatial issue raised by Witkin's theory of visual field dependence-independence (FDI). This chapter has two aims: (a) to insert the FDI construct in a broader model based on the vicarious processes of control of frames of reference; (b) to show the implications of such a model for major types of space: visual, moto-somesthetic, vestibular, and postural.
