ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a portion of a larger research program designed to investigate the influential role parents play in the development of represen tational competence in their children. After describing our working model and defining the concepts guiding our research effort, we present some of the findings and then discuss their implications in terms of developmental theory and further research.
